‘Hollandse Meesters Her-Zien’, is the kick-off of a growing series of photo portraits based on black people from history. They are almost invisible, the black inhabitants of Amsterdam in the Golden Age. In the paintings of the great Dutch masters there are mainly white main characters. The few black persons are additional figures, to illustrate the wealth of a white main figure. Jörgen Tjon A Fong from Urban Myth reveals, in collaboration with the Amsterdam Museum, the first three portraits of the (growing) exhibition ‘Hollandse Meesters Her-zien’. Sylvana Simons, Jose Montoya and Jörgen himself, crawl into the skin of the almost invisible black Dutch men and women who lived in Holland in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
