For the first time Museum Van Loon highlights the involvement of the 18th and 19th century Van Loon family with the WIC and Suriname. I will tell the stories around these historical people involved. The exhibition shows the operation of the Amsterdam-Surinamese plantation economy on the basis of a range of historical characters, such as investors in Amsterdam (the Van Loons), befriended governors in Elmina and slave makers on plantations in which investments were made. Descendants of these historical figures reflect in the exhibition on their and each other's (family) past and literally give history a voice and face.
